WELCOME TO THE ILFA WEBSITE
The IRISH LUNG FIBROSIS ASSOCIATION is dedicated to improving the care and treatment of people with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a potentially fatal lung disease, by
providing funding for research into this condition;
supporting the development of new treatments for this disease;
providing information and support to people affected by IPF.
The Irish Lung Fibrosis Association was founded in 2002 by Dr. Jim Egan with the help of relatives and friends of patients who have been central to its development.
If you would like to participate in the effort to find better treatments for Pulmonary Fibrosis please register with ILFA and/or make a donation to the ILFA Research Fund.
DUBLIN CITY MARATHON
Andrew Grehan, Eavan Murray, Angela Collins, Niall Kerley, Gary Harvey, Stephen Cassidy and Peter Edwards participated in the Dublin City Marathon in October to raise funds for ILFA. We congratulate them all and we appreciate their great efforts in this most challenging of sports."This is my third year running the marathon. I've always run for ILFA and will continue to do so to try to create more awareness for lung fibrosis and to help continue to support the good work being done by all involved. A big thank you to those of you who participated in the 2008 Women's Mini Marathon and raised money for ILFA. So far over €23,000 has been received this year. The WMM is one of ILFA's major fundraising events of the year (raising over € 128,000 in the six years that we've been involved) and we rely heavily on the sponsorship raised to maintain our research programme.Please forward any outstanding sponsorship money to the ILFA Treasurer at 4, Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown, Co. Dublin.And thank you, too, to all of you who so generously supported Professor Jim Egan's Wicklow Cycle. This event raised over €18,000 for ILFA funds. A special thank you to Professor Egan, who survived the eleven-hour cycle very well, although he was a bit sore and tired!
PATIENT INFORMATION DAY
The most recent ILFA Patient Information Day took place on Saturday, 12 April, 2008, in the Education and Research Centre, St. Vincent's Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin. Our new patron, Charlie Bird, launched the ILFA Directory of Services.The ILFA Patient Information Days provide an opportunity for anyone affected by IPF, including patients, their families and friends to get information and advice about this condition.Many thanks to our speakers who covered the medical and social aspects of IPF and included Professor Jim Egan, Professor Freddie Wood, Nicola Cassidy (Directory of Services), Irene Byrne (physiotherapist) and Bill Foley (social worker).

The aim of the directory is to support patients diagnosed with IPF, their family members and carers, by providing information on how to access services more efficiently.The booklet contains practical information on medical enitlements, oxygen therapy and mobility & transport along with telephone numbers and a website directory guiding users to access further information and services efficiently.The Directory can be downloaded; please click on the link along the side of this page.
