If you are looking after or helping anyone who is ill, disabled or frail, then the Carers Support Service is for you, no matter how many hours your caring role involves. We work with all types of carers in West Sus, especially in the Western area which covers Chichester District, Bognor Regis and Arundel. The contribution that carers make is often forgotten and taken for granted. Services can be difficult to access and complicated to understand. Information on which services are available can be difficult to get hold of. Carers can also feel isolated by their caring role. We work with carers and all agencies to improve this situation. Check the Information for Carers area for topics such as Carers Groups, Young Carers, Equipment & Adaptations and many other subjects. Who are we? The Carers Support Service (formerly The Carers Liaison Project) is a voluntary sector service, funded by West Sus Social Services. Begun in June 2000, the service consisted of two workers; the Service Manager and the Project Worker. In October 2005, the Service's Emotional Support for Carers was launched, which is available to all carers and ex-carers in our district. Since March 2006 we have also had a Mental Health Carers Support Worker who works with carers who look after someone with a mental illness. In May 2007 we expanded again and were joined by an Information Worker. A Telephone Support Worker was also appointed to join the Emotional Support for Carers team, and provides a telephone call-back service free of charge to carers and former carers. In August 2008 we appointed a Carers Support Worker - Learning Disabilities to support carers in our area who care for anyone aged 14 or over with learning disabilities. We have a voluntary Steering Group which guides our work and we are a part of the Council for Voluntary Service for the Chichester District, which is a registered charity. The Carers Information Pack 2007 edition is available. We are currently working on our 2008 edition which we hope to publish soon. If you would like a copy of our Information Pack, please contact us on 01243 537011or download the PDF file here on our website. Last updated: 09 October 2008   Would you like a break from your caring role? Why not apply to the Short Breaks for Carers fund administered here at the Carers Support Service. Telephone 01243 537011 for more details Come to one of our events to talk to other carers about their similar situations or just come to relax in a friendly environment. Please see Events for more information. If you need respite care for your cared for, please call the Carers Support Service (CSS) on 01243 537011. We also have Carers Support Groups that run monthly in Bognor Regis, Chichester, Selsey and the Wittering area. They are there to support you through your caring role and organise days outs, tea and chat and speakers both fun and educational. For more information or to come to one of our events or support groups please call the CSS on 01243 537011. Grants for Carers A Princess Royal Trust for Carers Grant may be able to help Carers financially. Click here for more details.
