Counseling Strategy Toolkit The Balanced Counseling Strategy: A Toolkit for Family Planning Service Providers How can family planning providers select suitable methods for their clients and explain how they work in the short time they have for the task? The Population Council's new Counseling Cards help provider and client more efficiently select from 15 contraceptive choices. The provider first determines whether the client is pregnant and then asks: "Do you wish to have children in the future? Are you breastfeeding an infant less than 6 months old? Does your partner support you in family planning? Are there any methods that you do not want to use...?" Depending on the answers, the provider puts aside the cards containing methods that are not suitable and counsels about those that are. The cards are part of the Balanced Counseling Toolkit which includes a User Guide that explains how to adapt the cards and strategy for family planning programs. Find out more and download the Toolkit or order the CD-ROM in English, French, and Spanish from the Population Council at INFO's One Source Search listing.
