Recieve one of Valentina's deepest, most thorough and complete full body Thai Massage massage. Surrender to the Yoga stretches, the rocking movements and the manipulations and you will come out relaxed and energised at the same time.THAI YOGA MASSAGE The foundation of Thai Massage is based on the concept that a life force (also known as prana , chi or energy flow ) circulates throughout the body maintaining health and vitality. This life force - invisible currents that can be felt and experienced - is believed to run along approximately 72,000 energy lines or Sens , roughly equivalent to the meridians of Chinese acupuncture and to the Ayurvedic Nadi channels. When this energy flow is blocked or restricted, sickness or disease may develop. To clear these blockages Thai Massage combines the application of pressure (produced with hands, thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees) with manipulation , adjustment and muscle stretching to provide a comprehensive bodywork experience designed to improve overall health and well-being. Energy pathways are cleared, muscles are elongated, joints are mobilized, internal organs and all bodily functions are supported to move towards a more balanced state. YOGA FOR LAZY PEOPLE - APPLIED ATHA YOGA Thai Massage is an interactive form of bodywork, often compared to a dance, in which the bodies of practitioner and client merge in continuing movement. The influence of yoga is apparent from the positions ( yoga asana ) and stretching movements ( adjustments ) typical of this massage. There are many similarities in language and definition between 3 of the 10 main Thai sens compared with the yogic and ayuvedic nadis (energy channels). The Thai sen sumana runs along the center of the body and reaches the tongue like the sushumna of yogic physiology, the Thai pingkhalaa , like the Sanskrit pingala , reaches the right nostril and is associated with the sun; while the Thai ithaa , like the sanskrit ida , reaches the left nostril and is associated with the moon. Thai Massage is like having yoga done to your body. The muscle stretching which takes the form of yoga style asanas, frees up joint spaces and deepens the stretch in a way that is passive for the recipient, yet very active in its effects. As it is similar in style, Thai Massage also offers similar benefits to yoga : flexibility, internal organ massage, oxygenation of the blood, mobilization, postural alignment, and quieting of the mind. Yoga practitioners have said: ãWith Thai Massage you are having the movements done to you. It removes the preoccupation with trying to get there and suddenly you are in a pose and enjoying itä. Thai Massage is also very beneficial for the practitioners because it allows them to enter a meditative state of mind, stretch and strengthen their own bodies while working on clients. The combination of yoga stretching, reflexology and acupressure make Thai Massage a very unique healing art that acts as a lymphatic cleanser helping to eliminate toxins created by physical, mental and emotional stress. By removing the obstructions that cause illness within the body, Thai Massage, like YOGA offers benefits that are multi-level, infact Thai Massage: * releases tense muscles and knots * increases flexibility and joint movement * assists postural alignment * stimulates internal organs * improves neurological functioning & vitality * relieves tension and stress * helps healing long term injuries * balances the energy flow through the body * helps strengthen the immune system * induces deep relaxation * calms the mind The origin of Thai Massage traces back to the time of Yogic and Ayurvedic medicine existing 2500 years ago, at the time of the historical Buddha. The credit for the development of Thai Massage as a medical practice goes to a famous Indian doctor named Dr Shivago Komarpaj, who was the personal physician of the Buddha and the monks in the monasteries of the time. His name is mentioned in the traditional writings of Theravada Buddism which views him as "the father of medicine". Through the centuries the monks, who were the practitioners of medicine, transmitted to Thailand both Buddhist practices and Ayurvedic medicine which eventually became an integral part of Thai culture. The generations of experience and knowledge learnt and passed down, through feeling and intuition, has made Thai Massage one of the four principal components of traditional thai medicine, along with nutrition, herbal medicine and spiritual practice. Thai Massage, infact, traditionally incorporates two kinds of meditations: a metta meditation of loving kindness and compassion and a vipassana meditation of insight, which focuses on the receiver's body. VALENTINA'S TREATMENTS A Thai Massage therapeutic treatment combines the Eastern knowledge of Acupressure, Yoga, Reflexology and Nerve touch with techniques similar to some Western physiotherapies such as: Mayo fascia, Trigger point, Chiropractic and others. The combination of energetic and physical work from both the East and the West is a unique characteristic that makes of Thai Massage one of the most thorough treatments. Working along the meridians - energy channels where the chi, or vital force runs - with a combination of acupressure, joint manipulations, yoga stretches and adjustments, Valentina not only releases knots, tension and energy blockages created by physical, mental and emotional stress, but actually drains the sick, unhealthy, stagnant energy out of the body, through the meridians, leaving the receiver free and energized! This technique, that Valentina learnt from Master Poo, is also called "Nerve and Energy realignment" and it is considered one of the deepest, most thorough and complete full body treatments.   BYRON THAI MASSAGE SCHOOL COURSES For Early Birds details, please go to the Course Fee section. For each course, please send the registration form at least 5 weeks prior to commencement date. Thank you. It is desirable to complete Levels I + II + practice week together. If that is not possible, students have the opportunity to attend Level I, Level II and the practice week at different times. (See Certifications and CPE Points Accreditation )   This course brings to Australia the hands-on techniques taught by ITM and the Old medical hospital in Chiang Mai. It provides students with the practical skills to perform the Art of Thai Yoga Massage in the traditional Northern style of Thailand, but with the addition of the Pilates and Yoga knowledge accumulated through years of personal practice, teaching and experience of the teachers of the course. The use of Western anatomical terms will be kept to a minimum, as students are encouraged to be in touch with their feeling and develop their intuitive sense.   1st week: Level I - Basic Thai Massage (30 hrs, 5 days) On the first day of the program, students will be introduced to the philosophy of Thai Massage, the working rules, precautions, techniques (using of palms, thumbs, feet, elbows and knees) and correct practitioner's body positioning. During the first week, students will learn how to move and unblock energy in the body through reflexology, energy line work (meridians) of the legs and arms, pressure points and stretches. Special emphasis is on leg work and leg stretches, for the hips and hamstrings and the mobilization of the joints. A simple, but extremely deep and powerful technique for the abdominal work, or internal organ massage, is learnt to unlock the energy in the core/ara of the body. All students will learn to perform a complete massage on the front part of the body (feet to neck). 2nd week: Level II - Nuad Bo-Rarn (30 hrs, 5 days) The second week will guide students through the use of reflexology, energy line work, pressure points and stretches on different positions: client laying on the side, back and sitting. Similar techniques are learnt on different positions to allow massage on pregnant women, injured, or simply create variations of treatments. Main acupressure points are introduced for therapeutic treatments. Special emphasis is on the whole back and shoulders, through meridian work and stretches, spinal twists and many different back bends, so to improve flexibility of the whole spine. Pelvis mobilization, hip points, safe quads and psoas stretches and more are all part of this second week. The program closes with the pressure points of the face massage. At the end of the second week, students will have all information to perform a full body Thai Yoga massage of up to 3hrs long. 3rd week: Supervised practice of levels I and II (30 hrs, 5 days) This week focuses on consolidating and integrating what has been taught in Levels I + II. Students are given the chance to practice the sequence over and over with each other and the teacher. They will deepen their experience of how Thai Massage feels to give and receive; learn from feedback; memorize movements, stretches and sequences; fine tune their movements, pressure, use of the body weight etc. It is a great chance for students to focus on their own body, posture and techniques. On the last day students will prepare few different 2hrs sequences (ex: lower back pain and shoulder and neck pain treatment) to perform in a final test.   ACCREDITATIONS Byron Thai Massage School is accredited by: The Massage Association of Australia Inc. (MMA)The Oriental Health Practitioner Association of Australia (OHPAA) Graduates of the 3 week intensive course are eligible for MAA Membership. This quailifies students for Insurance cover.
