Kiai Chi Gong is a simple system of self-healing exercises that combine movement, body positions and stances, breathing, and sound based on Oriental Medicine and Kiai Jitsu Theory. The exercises are grouped to open all parts of our body while moving in the six directions.  In 8 Foundations all the primary vowels are used in order to activate and harmonize all the energies and elements of our body.http://www.placeofclarity.com/events/Song/Song_Nov2008.htm2 comments|post commentquestion[29 Oct 2008|07:31pm]ladrogueverteHow important is it that one gets completely off of western drugs while taking Chinese medicine? More specifically, with autoimmune diseases?For example, I have started taking Chinese medicine. Before that, I was on alot of immune system supressants- I mostly got off of those, but prednisone, which messes with the liver, cannot be taken off immediately because it causes problems with the liver's ability to make steroids. And also, lisenopril which causes blood vessels to relax. I will ask my doctor, of course but I am curious about the opinions here as well.Thank you, everyone!16 comments|post commentquestion...[18 Oct 2008|04:41pm]dying_in_stereoMy mom has been seeing a great Acupuncturist for about 4-6months and when she started treatment for her arthritis and low kidney function the doctor said she couldnt have any coffee, alcohol, pork, blue back salmon, chicken and some other things that i forget.all those are easy to not have since she never eats any of them EXCEPT the chicken. and when i asked her why exactly chicken was bad? she didnt know but she asked him the next time and he didnt really give her an answer, just said he's been telling people not to eat those things for many years.so i was wondering... does anyone know why in TCM treatment you wouldnt be allowed to eat chicken?? Im curious and so is she what is bad about it or why you dont eat it. anyways, we dont eat a lot of chicken but we really only eat white meat for the most part, so when we do eat meat its on the list of ones we do eat.7 comments|post commentnew to needles[09 Oct 2008|07:56pm]slumberingbluehello, i'm new to the community and new to acupuncture.I am actually now on my 4th treatment and thus far I am loving it...I am finding that it is really helping with the symptoms of my chronic illness (MS) mostly with the fatigue.I am incredibly relaxed and replenished when I leave.I do wonder about something bizarre that occurred this last time around and what say you all about what exactly is happening.(I am amazed by this domain of alternative medicine so I'm all about research and knowledge)actually the appointment before last I have the full (30 some needles I am thinking) starting at the crown of my head all the way down to my ankles on the back side.  Upon hook up to the electro-stim, my gluts spasmed and my leg jumped up off the table a wee bit.  this day was post traumatic medical procedure so I'm thinking my body was on edge already.  as I was lying there after the stim was turned down, i kept feeling as if i were falling (similar to when you are falling asleep).freaked me out a little but then a friend mentions this is a good sign (as does the acupuncturist).  it means the qi is flowing.so last night i get the needles placed on the front of my body, ankles, mid calf and in the fold of my thumb and index finger, just below the wrist and one other near there.  I was feeling random pricks elsewhere where no needle was inserted.  along with an ache in my left leg just below the knee, on the outside.  does this mean blockage?  would love to hear from any of you who have found acupuncture more successful in treating symptoms of chronic illnesses along with traditional medicine or on its own?  thanks!2 comments|post commentHow many treatments?[08 Oct 2008|05:48am]mlnhIm thinking of trying acupuncture.Im curious on how many treatments is usually needed, as my economy will be bad the next ½ - 1 year so im wondering if i should start now or if i should wait untill i can afford more treatments.My problems that i want help with is mixed: Trouble sleeping, post traumatic stress, hair loss, menstrual cramps, skin breakouts (not that bad anymore).  And anxiety, depression, but its more because of my lifesituation so i dont think it would help with that.How often is treatment needed, is it once per month or more or less?And how many does people usually need? I know its not the same for everyone! I just would like to know if its about 5, 10, or 40 cause i have no idea :-)Does acupuncture trigger any bad emotions or memories? Im by myself and pretty miserable already so its important that it wont be to bad, i cant handle some. I heard that other kind of treatments can have that effect so i was wondering if acupuncture could to.Thanks in advance :-)5 comments|post commentSome Help?[01 Sep 2008|12:04am]dying_in_stereo[mood| contemplative]Hopefully theres people in here who are pretty familiar with TCM.I am new to it, but after witnessing what it has done for my mother and her arthritis... I know i must try it. Im planning to see a TCM doctor in the near future, but since healthcare obviously doesnt cover it I have to wait a month or so and put some money aside for it.anyways, I think Ive figured out what I have. I believe its called Kidney Qi or Yin. From what Ive gathered they are the same thing? correct me if Im wrong.anyways, I have severe anxiety that onset from out of no-where about 2 years ago. it was so bad back then that I literally did not leave the house for about 3 months. I sought western medical treatment which i obviously hope to not need forever since i dont know what these little pills i take contain.also, another symptom i have that can be both anxiety and kidney qi related i think is that I ALWAYS have to pee. I mean constantly. I will pee and then about 5 minutes later I need to pee again. sometimes, Ill pee and Ill get up and still feel like I have to pee. I know I dont have any infections. for sure. aside from when I first wake up in the morning its always clear. I do drink a lot but i dont think its enough to constitute peeing as much as i do.I actually dont know what Im asking for.... advice on how i could go about treating symptoms like this for the next month until I go in for acupuncture? or advice in general about it? Thanks :)9 comments|post commentSchools for TCM?[06 Aug 2008|06:19pm]ladrogueverteAre there any databases for schools that teach TCM? Thanks so much!5 comments|post comment5 element vs. TCM[11 Jul 2008|01:50pm]moonfruityCan anyone tell me that has experience of getting treated for both which worked for them? Or any practitioners that can give me an idea of what the difference is? I know a lot about TCM as I'm almost in my 3rd year, but was wondering how 5 element is different, better, worse etc. Thanks for any info, off opinons welcome. :)7 comments|post commentAny Information.[04 Jun 2008|03:15pm]limeyariverJust Purchased a bottle of XIAO YAO WAN and HOUJILING CAPSULES. The first as a treatment for stomach issues (GERD) and the second for "plum pit qi" does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these and if there are any better bets. I was overwhelmed in the store and went of mostly internet recomendations. Thanks!9 comments|post commentPiles/hemorrhoids[26 May 2008|03:16pm]lazy_hoor A friend of mine recently had a baby and now she has the most awful case of piles - she's been told she may need surgery.  She'd like to avoid going back into hospital again (the birth was somewhat horrific) and she's wondering if there's any remedy that works - she's tried the usual anti-imflammatories, ointments etc.  Doe acupuncture help?Thanks in advance.6 comments|post commentChecking out a few schools...[25 May 2008|10:03pm]evil_doc Im thinking about going to Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, CA. anyone here have any experiences of this school or heard anything about it? thanks2 comments|post commentDeciding on a school[14 May 2008|11:46am]screamsosoftAnyone have an opinion on the acupuncture program at the Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine in North Carolina?Thanks :)post commentPain and bruising?[13 May 2008|01:34pm]shadowshowI have had three appointments with an acupuncturist so far (first time ever). I still have a bruise or two from my first treatment. Today in particular I'm left with some VERY tender and bruised spots from the treatment.I have no other experiences with acupuncture to compare. Is it normal to have pain/tenderness and bruising after acupuncture treatments? One spot on my back is so sore I can barely touch it.Thanks!5 comments|post commentBeginner's Question[11 May 2008|04:45pm]lizzbeth1Hello All - I've looked through a lot of your back entries, and while this seems like a really great community for getting basic questions answered, I didn't see this one. (Sorry if it gets repeated a lot...)I have been sick six or seven times since January - multiple ear and sinus infections, stomach bugs, strep throat, all wrapped around garden variety cold symptoms. Lather.Rinse.Repeat. It's getting very tiresome, and the antibiotics I'm being given by my GP are getting progressively stronger and tougher to take.Would anyone be willing to comment on what acupuncture / other therapies I might pursue to boost my immune system? There is a very strong school of chinese medicine where I live, so the odds of my being able to find a good practioner are high. I'd just like to know whether - in general - this is something that can be helped.Many thanks.5 comments|post comment[08 May 2008|09:03am]blusparrow[mood| curious]I was accepted into Tristate College in NYC for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I plan on starting this summer so that I can take some pre-reqs and get them out of the way. I have been living in Philadelphia for the last 4.5 yrs but was born and raised in NYC ... but I currently don't have a job lined up yet. My question is, what are most people's experiences going to school full time and working? I've read and heard that it's structured a lot like medical school and is time consuming. I'm contemplating loans for the first year so that I can get accustomed to the program and then may be look for a part time job later on, but I also know that some people end up taking out loans throughout the entirety of the program.Any thoughts?16 comments|post commentjust a few questions[05 May 2008|07:10pm]undercoverfox[mood| drained]hi everyone :) my name's rachel and i'm new to this community. i'm still in college due to finish up my bachelors in psychology and sociology next spring. i've always wanted to help people and i've really been turned on by the more natural and holistic approach acupuncture has to offer. i'd really love to go into naturopathic medicine as well as acupuncture and oriental medicine, but there are so many schools to choose from that i feel overwhelmed; i don't even know where to begin! i don't want to fall for a school that turns out to be a beauty school or something not credible, does anyone have any recommendations for accredited schools that offer master and doctoral degrees? or any schools to stay away from? i've also been looking at Bastyr University in seattle, washington. if anyone goes there, what would you say your education is like? does this school have any negatives?, because it seems like such a dream. and what is it like living in seattle? i'm from san antonio, texas where the only season we have is summer. all the pictures of seattle look beautiful but i've heard all the rain makes it quite a depressing place to live. is that true?sorry for all the questions but anything constructive anyone has to say would be greatly appreciated! right now i'm like a sponge.thanks!- rachel p.s. best of luck to anyone out there who's also going through finals this week10 comments|post commentNew member[05 May 2008|05:27pm]screamsosoftHi everyone! I am interested in possibly pursuing a career in accupuncture. I am currently employed full-time as a mathematician (so...not related to accupuncture/wellness really at all!). I have been interested in accupuncture for awhile, but I am stuck living where I am right now (Maryland), and didn't think there were any schools around here offering degrees in accupuncture. Well, I just found out that Tai Sophia, which I can see from my office window, is actually a Wellness Institute offering degrees in accupuncture! Very strange and serendipidous. I don't want to get too excited, though, without getting some opinions on this place. Anyone have one? I'm going to attend an open house next week to get some info - just wondering if anyone has any strong opinions one way or the other.Thanks!12 comments|post commentinformation on chai hy long gu mu li wan[28 Mar 2008|12:19pm]voyager640[mood|awake]I went to the acupuncturist and my diagnosis was liver stagnation causing dampness causing heart fire. She recommended an herb called bupleurum dragonbone oystershell or chai hu long gu mu li wan. Other than an ingredients list, I can't seem to find much on it, and she didn't have much information either other than a sentence about it. Does anyone have a book about this formula or a website that you could suggest?@james3 comments|post comment[29 Feb 2008|07:46am]sitt_hakimhas anyone taken the CA state boards after going through a tutorial/apprenticeship instead of an acupuncture school? what was that like? i am not satisfied with my current school, and i would really like to move back to the central coast (i was marooned far, far away after my former school closed), and i know that is my only option if i were to do that.post commentnavigation[viewing|most recent entries][go|earlier]AdvertisementCustomizeAdvertisementCustomizeif (SnapShots) { SnapShots.init('livejournal.com', 'livejournal.ru', 'sol-agency.ru', 'last.fm', 'lastfm.com', 'lastfm.ru');}
