About Structural Integration and the Rolf Method
Structural integration, also known as Rolfing or Rolf Method, promotes wellbeing by enhancing the body's pattern of organization. It balances the body in gravity and enables participants to function at successively higher levels of efficiency and ease. The Structural Integration process was developed over a 50 year period of study by the late Dr. Ida P. Rolf.
Structural Integration frees fascial adhesions (unhealthy binding of tissues), allowing the muscles and bones to return to balanced relationships. When the fascial system is organized through this process, the body's major segments are freed to align themselves properly. Following a series, people have reported to have eliminated or reduced chronic pain, greater range of motion, improved coordination, a feeling of rejuvenation, and an increased sense of well-being.
You may feel pain or tension only in particular areas of your body however, there can be significant compensations in the fascia throughout your structure from previous injuries, trauma or movement habits. During the Structural Integration process, the WHOLE human being is addressed toward balance to effect long lasting change and release of tension throughout the structure. The process is designed to be an 8 to 12 session series, although it is beneficial with even one session. Each one lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes, usually done once per week to allow time for your body to adapt to changes.

The Rolf Institute for Structural Integration was established in 1971 and serves as an educational and research center to support and promote Rolfing. A nonprofit organization, its headquarters are in Boulder, Colorado with two other locations in Brazil and Germany. There are currently over 1200 Certified Rolfers in 27 different countries.
